5.2.1. The basic knowledge you should have ¶

5.2.2. What is Web Services? ¶

• Web Services is an application component

• Web Services uses open protocols for communication

• Web Services is self-contained and self-describing

• Web Services can be discovered by using UDDI

• Web Services can be used by other applications

• XML is the foundation of Web Services

5.2.3. How does it work? ¶

The basic Web Services platform is XML + HTTP.

HTTP protocol is the most commonly used Internet protocol.

XML provides a language that can be used between different platforms and programming languages.

5.2.4. Elements of the Web services platform: ¶

• SOAP (simple object access Protocol)

• UDDI (General description, Discovery and Integration)

• WSDL (Web services description language)
